You smell like an Ironman?

So I ran across this article that AVON is going to be launching an IRONMAN fragrance! Seems a little weird… but here’s what they say it will smell like

… a fusion of citrus and spices spiked with rich woods. Top notes of ginger, lime and violet mingle with mid notes of nutmeg, rain mist accord and vetiver, and are grounded in a base of patchouli, cedarwood, wiliwood accord and tree moss.

They will also make it look sporty!

The fragrance comes in a bottle with a top designed to look like a bike grip, one of the disciplines seen in Ironman, evoking the athleticism that inspires the fragrance. The black-on-black carton features icons of each of the triathlon sports—with a footprint representing running, waves representing swimming, and tire tread representing cycling.

The article says it won’t be out till summer 2009. But I went to the Avon website to do a quick search. They have nothing on the site, in fact my search ended up with this incongruent result.

Your search for “ironman” did not match any of the products we carry. We searched for “romance” instead.

I am not a big perfume person, but this one started to sound pretty good until I got to the  patchouli!! Okay, I went to the Evergreen State College and had to smell WAY too much of that on top of smelly hippie… not a stereotype! I encountered it plenty! But it is a Men’s fragrance anyway…

SO WHY would one even make a prefume based on sweaty athletes?

“we wanted the Ironman collection to capture both the global spirit of the race and the ‘Anything is Possible’ mentality that accompanies it.”

I guess that sums it up… what do you think? Do Ironmen NEED a scent to represent their mentality?

I think its cool, if you’ve done an Ironman…maybe it should go into an ironman finisher bag or something, something to go along with the edal you get or whatever they give you. should have male and female fragerance. Doesn’t sound too bad, so we will see.!!

I still think WD-40 should come out with a cologne for men…something tough, and it should smell like WD-40 mostly!!

I must admit that the words “Ironman” and “fragrance” in the same sentence to not paint a pretty picture! On the other hand it makes an awesome gift opportunity for the Avon shopping family members who wouldn’t have a clue what else to buy a triathlete for Christmas.

I love that the search engine offered romance as a substitute for ironman.

thanks for pointing out this product… it will likely be a novelty that I get for some friends when it comes out.
