Reflections and Goals

Here are some of my stats for the past 4 months. I like charts and numbers. The logbook options here have some interesting graphs but they don’t show me quite what I want, thank goodness for Excel. So here is some things I can learn from this chart. In May, although I exercised more actual days, the workouts were shorter distances and times. In June, I got sick so my number of days dwindled, but I still increased my distance in biking and swimming. In July, I had the benefit of the lake for a week so I got in a lot of swim meters (that chart should read meters swam NOT miles.) Finally, August, distances seemed to even out, but with a nice increase in running.

So with these stats, I now need to set my September goals.

  • Swim: Laps before school Mon and Wed for 30 mins. That will be 8 days with a goal of 12-20 laps each time (hopefully increasing laps within the time frame) I am pretty stuck with the 30 mins, because I need to get to work. This adds up to a goal of 4800M for the month.
  • Bike: I am going to give SPIN class a try again. They have a class on Thurs and Sat that fit my schedule. I am not sure how to calculate miles for a spin class. But I think I will go with my ‘average’ mph and count them each for 12 miles. My plan is that if it is SUNNY and DRY I will take a longer bike ride outside on Saturdays, but if it is crummy and cold I will hit the spin class. So at 8 days of biking/spin at a minimum of 12 miles each, this add up to a goal of 96 miles for the month.
  • Strength Training: I have sessions scheduled for once per week (mostly Mon) for all 5 weeks of September. These are an hour each and I can depend on my trainer to push me each week.
  • Run: My least favorite of the three, but maybe my new friend Tory will push me on this one. I would like to do treadmill for 30mins before each Monday strength training session. Lately, I have only managed 1.75 miles on these before ST runs. I would like to increase that to 2 miles. So right there, with 5 ST days + 2 Miles I am up to 10 miles. Friday will be my other RUN day. I am going to plan an hour for these days with as many miles as I can do, hoping for an increase to 4 miles by the end of the month. If it is raining, I will do the treadmill at the gym, if not then a path in the neighborhood. There is also a beginning running skills class on the 9th that I plan to attend. So we will say 5 days @ 3 miles each. This add up to a goal of 10 running days for a total of 25 miles.
  • This adds up to one or two workouts for 5 days a week with Tuesdays and Sundays off. Sunday will be my make-up day if I miss a bike or run earlier in the week.

SO this is really frackin’ ambitious. But also doable, if I stick to my schedule. Next event is the PumpkinPush. I really need to focus on improving my running. I did the 3.2 with an average of 17 mph, so I am hoping to improve that to 15mph for the race at the end of October.

Tell me if I am crazy?
