Gardening

Posted by shebaduhkitty under: Gardening; General Cardio.

I gardened on and off throughout the day. Still need lots of breaks, as much because of the sun and heat as much as being out of shape.

Confidence Fitness

Posted by shebaduhkitty under: Cycle.

So it seems that my confidence in my fitness is lower than my actual fitness.

My 2 rides to work today I felt like I would never be able to ride any distance again. One mile of flat easy roads and I was huffing and puffing and feeling my thigh muscles goan with the agony of a sedantary lifestyle. I recalled difficult 40 mile rides feeling easier than this measly one miler. But I want to get back to it. I LOVED cycling! So I mapped out a little ride in the neighborhood to do this weekend.

Trying to set myself up for success, I picked a route that was mostly flat, or with areas where the steep roads would have me going down hill, and slower easier roads to return uphill. I picked a route that was 80% bike lane on slow traffic roads. I wore my keen sandals so I could clip in, or not depending on how I felt. I wore my most comfortable biking clothes. I walked the dogs first, so I knew they wouldn’t be going crazy and bugging Shawn while he was trying to sleep. (Graveyard shift this month) I posted on FB that I was going to do it. And then I just did it.

I worried that I am so out of shape that it would take me an hour with multiple stops. It took 30 mins including the short stop in the middle to take a quick picture. I did have some heavy breathing, but I can do this. It wasn’t THAT hard. I sweated but not too much, not dripping in my eyes and thru my clothes. I didn’t fall, forgetting how to unclip. I didn’t have to walk up any hills, no matter how minor. No cars freaked me out. Although another cyclist who said hello as he passed startled the heck put of me.

So I did this simple thing, even though my self talk tried to tell me I couldn’t. Working on changing that around will continue to be a battle, as even in my best shape, I had a hard time believing in myself. So I will move forward, one workout at a time.

And set the goal of doing this easy ride a minimum of 2x a week for the rest of May.
